A car crashed into a 600-year-old hotel and pub and damaged its stone pillars.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the Langport Arms, in Cheapside, Somerset, on Saturday at 20:20 BST, closing the road for several hours.

The driver was treated by paramedics but did not suffer any serious injuries, a Devon and Somerset Fire Service (DSFS) spokesperson said.

A pub spokesperson said the hotel bar remains open but the hotel’s front entrance was “blocked and the balcony has been structurally damaged”.

“Emergency services were called immediately and first aid was offered onsite,” the spokesperson wrote on Facebook.

“We are thankful and very much grateful to our employees who acted so promptly during this shocking and trying time.”

Firefighters from Somerton and Taunton attended the crash and crews used an acrow prop to support the porch roof.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said no arrests had been made.
